Abale Ilona Thaga serves as the Secretary of BAVA for the 2025–2026 term, bringing organisation, clarity, and youthful leadership to the association. Now based in Melbourne, Abale is currently studying a Bachelor of Applied Data Science at Monash University. In just two years of living in Victoria, she has already become an active and engaged member of the Batswana community.
As a data science student, Abale brings analytical thinking, precision, and strong problem-solving abilities to her role as Secretary. Her strength lies in bringing structure to processes, maintaining clear communication, and helping create a more seamless and efficient administrative experience for BAVA and its members. She is detail-oriented, reliable, and passionate about supporting systems that help the community stay connected and thrive.
Abale has a strong sense of cultural pride and community responsibility, motivated by the belief that BAVA is not just an organisation, but a home away from home for Batswana living in Victoria. She is guided by her favourite Setswana proverb, “Lesego ga le bethwe ke legodu,” a reminder that what is meant for you cannot be taken from you. This mindset fuels her confidence, humility, and her commitment to serving with integrity.
As Secretary, Abale hopes to play a vital role in strengthening communication within the association, supporting the executive team, and creating a smoother, more engaging experience for students, families, and professionals alike. Outside of her studies and community work, she enjoys exploring Melbourne, connecting with friends, and learning new skills that support her personal and professional growth.
Young, focused, and deeply committed, Abale represents the next generation of Batswana leadership in Victoria — grounded, optimistic, and eager to help the community grow.
